A Pakistani cultural evening fascinates the Berliners
The Pak-German Council for Culture and Democracy has invited political celebrities, artists and more than 200 guests to a fascinating cultural evening. The dialogue between both cultures and countries (Pakistan & Germany) remained the main focus and brought together many different guests with new inspirations. There was to enjoy Pakistani music, tasty food and ceremonious addresses of the celebrities.
Berlin, 30th November, 2006, in the Lichtenberger Culture house "Kiezspinne" , Pakistani ambassador Mr. Asif Ezdi, member German Parliament “Bundestag” Mr. Joseph Winkler, the vice-president of the Berliner Parliament Mrs. Karin Seidel-Kalmutzki, the Mayor of city Lichtenberg Mrs. Christina Emmrich, the vice-mayor Mr. Andreas Geisel and members of the Berlin chamber of deputies and the district delegate of Berlin-Lichtenberg were received as guests of honor. Before it went off, Shahid Riaz (chairpersons of the DPG) received a marathon of more than 200 guests personally and very warmly at the entrance of the hall, with this evening came in to good spirit. The subject of Pakistan and its culture generated big curiosity among audience; one could see it in congested hall. Close packed the guests sat down with patience and expectations, more guests turned up than the organizers had expected initially.
Shahid Riaz greeted many guests of honour, representatives of endowments and organisations and the citizens of Germany, Pakistan and other countries. He introduced with many impressive pictures his homeland to Pakistan. Besides, the long diverse history of the land, he showed the photos of the everyday scenes from his youth which provided amusement and impressed the listeners. Erik Gührs (Vice President DPG) asked the guests to support the DPG because sees in the exchange knowledge with the subjects Culture and Democracy a chance to strengthen civil society of Pakistan and to give a future to the youth. “This evening should put new impulses and bring together more people for this purpose”.
As an honour, the ambassador his Excellency Ezdi and Shahid Riaz handed over to many guests of honour an "Ajrak" (traditional scarf in Pakistan) and provided thus for the climax of the evening. In the addresses following afterwards of the guests of honour it came to the dialog between the German / European and Pakistani political views, the positions of both states and which chances exist for the positive change and the situation in Pakistan. Manfred Becker (Leader of the SPD faction in the BVV) highlighted again the importance of cultural exchange for the better understanding of each other, he emphasized that in the future more cultural evenings should take place in our district.
Before the tasty Buffet was opened, a Pakistani musicians group entertained the guests with traditional instruments and songs. The guests came later in conversation with each other and were amazed about the successful evening. They thanked the DPG and the Kiezspinne for the good organisation.
