Deutsche Juristen unterstützen die Anwältebewegung in Pakistan und fordern die sofortige Wiedereinsetzung des Obersten Richters von Pakistan, Iftikhar Chaudry, in sein Amt. Herr Dr. Andreas Köhler, Vorstandsmitglied in der Rechtsanwaltskammer von Berlin, hat am 11. Februar in Berlin eine offizielle Erklärung abgegeben, in der er vom pakistanischen Präsidenten Zardari die Wiedereinsetzung von Oberrichter Chaudry und anderen suspendierten Richtern verlangt.

Wortlaut der Erklärung:

"As a representative of the German lawyers and being a German politician, first of all I congratulate the Pakistani nation for a successful and peaceful transition to democracy. Pakistan with its 160 million hardworking people is geo-politically an important nation in the world. Peace and stability of Pakistan is interconnected with the peace and stability of the whole world. German lawyers and German public admire the motivation and efforts of the Pakistani people to make Pakistan a progressive, democratic, just and economically strong nation.

We very much wish that Pakistani children should have the same opportunities of health, education and career as our children enjoy here in Europe, but this all is only possible if there is supremacy of law in Pakistan. As a member of Executive Committee of Lawyers Chamber, I want to support the efforts and struggle of the Pakistani lawyers for the rule of law, independent judiciary and reinstatement of Chief Justice Chaudhry in his office. We have been following the struggle of Pakistani lawyers against the last dictator Gen. Musharraf; these are those lawyers who really started the movement of democracy in Pakistan. If Pakistani nation is enjoying a democratic system today, there should be no doubt that it is due to the sacrifices of Pakistani politicians and Pakistani lawyers.

I demand from the President of Pakistan Mr. Asif Ali Zardari to reinstate Chief Justice Mr. Chaudhry and other justices in their offices, so that the demand of Pakistani public and Pakistani lawyers is fulfilled. I also demand from the President of Pakistan to find legal ways to abolish the sentence of Mr. Nawaz Sherif and Mr. Shebaz Sehrif. Both brothers are prominent and popular political leaders of Pakistan. If they are pushed out of Pakistani politics for whatever reason, this will only harm the stability of democracy and rule of law in Pakistan.

Once again I want to extend my unconditional moral support for the Pakistani lawyer community."
